Our eyes.
What a 3D creature sees in its retina is two dimensional, not three dimensional.
The 3rd is inferred.
There was a little bot . . .
...that had a little thought.
It giggled as it wiggled when it drew a little dot.
Then drew a little spot.
Then threw the two together just to see what could be got.
It heard a tick...tock.
The bot thought: "Clock!"
Then penned ten more before the door became unlocked.
